Because of the important Tibetan community present at Bodhnath, the stupa is surrounded by many gompa, or monasteries, where are celebrated daily the religious buddhist ceremonies which is the life of the lama monks. The Buddhist ritual of Puja proceeds then invariably before sunrise and at sundown. On these occasions, the monks and young lamas gathered in the gompa read the holy scriptures and mantras while chanting and playing their sacred music.
