To the Eastern fringe of Kathmandu rises an imposing stupa, biggest of Nepal and certainly of all Asia. The Buddhism practiced here is of Tibetan influence. In fact, Bodhnath is an important gathering area for the capital's many Tibetans. At first light, groups of old women with their religious mala necklaces gather in silence to meditate on the wooden praying boards. With their repeated gestures, they perpetuate here the tradition of their people beyond their own borders.
