While the fishermen work on the heavy tentacular structures supporting their square nets, the beach of Fort Cochin is the theatre of another ritual: every Sunday, the inhabitants of Kochi, Ernakulam and the surroundings come with their friends and family to enjoy the beach. Usually peaceful, the sand extent is transformed into a true procession of colored saris. With the summer heat, the children happily discover, in a kind of a mass hysteria, the pleasure of the waves and the ice cream. If some young men dare to bathe, the majority of these sunday strollers will however only soak one timid foot in Lakshadweep sea.
