Located in the South-west of Xinjiang, the city of Kashgar is a commercial crossroad of importance on the Silk Road. Close to the Kirghizstan, Pakistan and Tadjikistan borders, the populations of Central Asia are strongly represented there. In the heart of Ouighour country, Kashgar especially enjoys an exceptional situation : along the Taklamakan desert, this oasis is the starting point of the Silk road going through the Karakorum Range which gave its name to the road stretching to Pakistan.
