Protected from the Arctic ocean's fury, the South Coast of the Hornstrandir is, without a doubt, the most peaceful part of the peninsula. The coast is jagged by deep protected fjords and the landscapes are smoother than those in the north. Life was possible around here : from the Hrafnfjardareyri ruins where the famous fugitive Eivindur Jönsson found a refuge, to the tiny abandoned Furufjördur church, going through the ancient Hesteyri whale station. These ghostly remnants of another time are so many testimmonies of the ruggedness of this land, today totally deserted by men. |
